The Wine

Cincuenta y Cinco comes from vineyards planted in 1955 which gently rest on a sea of pebbles, typical in riverbed soils. It is fermented whole cluster at very low temperatures, enhancing the floral characteristics of the wine. Cincuenta y Cinco has the highest amount of tension of all the Chacra wines while it still retains a comfortable ease.

Tasting notes

There is a wonderful purity in this wine with dried strawberry and iodine. This refined red mixes crushed bilberry and cherry fruit with undertones of smoke, game and mineral. A fine length.

About the Estate

In 2004, Piero Incisa della Rochetta of the renowned winemaking family responsible for the creation and success of Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia), purchased the first of vineyard land, which is now Chacra. At the time, the property contained an existing, albeit abandoned vineyard planted in 1932. Piero was called from his multigenrational Italian winemaking family to the southern hemisfere, compelled by the goal to produce world-class Pinot Noir in unchartered territory. This singular vineyard at Chacra is of thick, pure, gnarled Pinot Noir vines; plants from their own rootstocks producing tiny bunches of small, concentrated berries which are harvested by hand.
