The Vintage (2021)
The climate The harvest started on 20 August with Merlot and continued somewhat early and at a quick pace through the first week of September, to preserve high acidities and prevent excessive alcohol levels. Sunny weather in mid-September encouraged balanced ripening in the Cabernet vineyards, with the berries showing excellent concentration, beautifully-firm tannins, and taut skins. Picking of the Cabernets began in the second third of the month, and concluded on 28 September with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc
Vineyards and Winemaking
Bolgheri Rosso grows in vineyards lying at 100 to 200 meters’ elevation, in soils composed of quarzitic sandstone, a mix of clays, fossil-rich flysch marl, and red sands, and with a classic marine breeze-tempered Mediterranean climate. Our viticultural philosophy and practices, firmly based on respect for the environment, ensure a naturally-balanced, unforced grape crop, an essential requirement for producing wines that are authentically terroir-expressive. The vineyards, averaging 24 years old, are manually harvested. Bolgheri Rosso ferments in stainless steel, followed by an 8-month maturation in small oak barrels, then bottling in August 2022
